DESCRIPTION

The client approached Gottsmann Architects looking for a simple family home with an industrial aesthetic. After understanding the client’s requirements and the context, the design investigation began. The Barn House was inspired by the simple forms seen in a barn. Lightweight steel was used as an alternative building method which shortened the construction period. Steel cladding was used which gave the industrial aesthetic. The layout of the house was fragmented so as to create privacy between the rooms and the programme, while also allowing the house to utilise the large stand appropriately.

Largely industrial by influence, the design itself uses contemporary solutions to conceptual philosophy and contextual constraints. The design transcends its own aesthetic to accommodate for more than just a style; it provides for a lifestyle, a home, a celebration.
